Below I’ve compiled a list of events taking place over the August Bank Holiday to help keep you and your tinkis entertained. If you fancy getting out and about in the fresh air instead why not check out some of the great local parks and picnic spots or even head to the beach.
Fun Day for Cancer Research

Treasure Hunt, beer tent, home made cakes, music, face painting, competitions, flight simulator and much more.
Urban Root Festival
12 noon – 10 pm
The Festival will take place on Saturday 27th August between 12pm – 10pm. The day consists of two stages, live entertainment, shisha tents, authentic street foods, Kids fun. This is a paid for ticketed event and bringing your own food is prohibited.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s Outdoor Cinema
Waddeston Manor, HP18 0JH
National Trust property Waddeston Manor plays host to an outdoor screening of the classic Audrey Hepburn movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, LU6 2LF
Fancy watching the Jungle Book in amongst the animals? That’s exactly what Whipsnade are offering there is a chance to look around their Zoorassic Park exhibit, watch a bird demonstration before enjoying the film on the big screen. The team at the zoo will provide you with headphones to enjoy the film with so the parks animals aren’t disturbed.
Kempston Fun Day
Addison Howard Park, MK42 8PN
Run by the Bedford Lions Club this is the 8th Kempston Fun Day. Entertainment includes bringing the Wild West to Kempston with re-enactments of western gun fights from ‘The Wild Bunch’, line dancing, stalls and children’s fun fair. There is no admission charge but there is a charge of £1 for car parking.
28th -29th August
The Battle for Newport Pagnell
Bury Field Common, MK16 8EU
Civil War battle re-enactments with around 500 soldiers, cavalry and artillery as well as a living history village.
The Watts Fest
Castlethorpe Road, Hanslope, MK19 7LG
The Watts Arms are hosting live bands, BBQs, bouncy castle. With face painting and a raffle raising funds for Willen Hospice between 12-12.
Wolverton Road, MK16 8HW
Raising funds for Castlemead Court Care Centre, stalls, games music and a change to show off your pooch in the dog show.
Emerson Valley Fun Day
Milton Keynes Rugby Club, MK42 2DN
A fun day raising funds for Making Memories, activities include face painting, stalls, pony rides, food and licensed bar. The day runs from 12pm – 5pm.
Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity, SG8 6PZ
Fundraising day in aid of the Hedgehog Hospital with events including a childrens magic show, face painting, arts and crafts stalls. There is also the chance to meet some of the hedgehogs being cared for. The day runs from 12pm – 4pm.
