If you’ve read any of this blog then you’ll probably have guessed that we’re a pretty easy pair to please Tinki and I, if there is something to look at, a play park and a latte then we’re pretty much sold. If daddy is joining us for the trip then add in a hot food stall and everyone’s sorted. The Waddesdon Christmas Fair ticks all these boxes and more.
Waddesdon Manor is a National Trust property near Aylesbury and its a impressive manor house with an impressive woodland adventure play area, full of slides, rope swings and climbing frames .
The house is about 50 mins from Milton Keynes. When you arrive you get either the little bus to the house or you can walk the 20 minute route. The house is pretty darn impressive with its huge long drive way and fountains. Think Downton Abbey meets Hogwarts.
Within the grounds there is miles of land to walk round, an aviary to investigate, a huge play area and even a wine cellar. At Christmas time there is even more to explore with wooden huts selling local produce, hot food, drinks (hot mulled wine!) and gifts.
There is a very cool wigwam restaurant with warming fire. There is a giant replica of the house made of gingerbread to look around, complete with gingerbread chandeliers. This particular exhibit is not for the faint hearted though as I was paranoid Tinki was going to destroy the 200 hours of work that went into building with his desire to taste some! There is also a lovely craft activity making felt Christmas trees with ribbons and buttons.
In the evenings they have a festive light display projected onto the house and they have ‘planted’ 9000 glass spheres which light up in the grounds like glowing flowers.
I’d fully recommend checking the fair out its a great day although alas not a cheap one. If you have National Trust membership then its free to attend but otherwise its £10 per person. The stalls are great and far too tempting but its got to be said it beats trudging round a shopping centre to purchase your Christmas gifts and it definitely gets you in the festive sprit.
The fair is on Wednesday to Sunday up until the 11 December although the light display and gingerbread house will still be in residence until 2 January. Postcode to find the manor on your Sat Nav is HP18 0JH.
